Water-borne urethane acrylic resin is a hybrid polymer system combining polyurethane and acrylic components, dispersed in water without the use of hazardous solvents. Its polymer structure offers the mechanical strength and strong adhesion of urethane, along with the gloss retention and weatherability of acrylic. The resin forms a flexible film that resists yellowing and cracking under varying temperature and humidity conditions.
It is a safe, high-performance choice for coating systems that require both weather durability and low environmental impact. This is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the official distributor of Covestro in Vietnam.
1. PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Water-borne urethane acrylic resin is widely used in interior wood finishes, plastic coatings, synthetic leather finishing, paper coatings, heat transfer printing, and light-duty industrial paints. In wood applications, the resin provides a uniform glossy finish with excellent impact resistance and long-term durability. In flexible substrates like leather or soft plastics, the coating remains elastic and crack-free even under bending or compression. It is also suitable for matte or gloss topcoats in graphic printing, transfer printing, and light water-repellent outer layers.

2. APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The resin is supplied as a stable emulsion and can be blended directly with water, film-forming agents, pigments, and additives based on formulation needs. During formulation, ensure the system pH remains between 7 and 8 to maintain dispersion stability and film formation performance. Recommended application conditions are temperatures between 20°C and 35°C with relative humidity below 70%, which promotes uniform drying, consistent color, and prevents hazy films. Typical surface drying time is 30–45 minutes and can be accelerated with mild heating if faster throughput is required.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Water-borne urethane acrylic resin is sensitive to metal ions, strong oxidizers, or additives with extremely low pH levels. Full system compatibility should be tested before scaling up to production. Avoid combining with incompatible hardeners, which may lead to loss of film integrity, precipitation, or reduced transparency. Store in sealed containers in a cool, shaded area. Do not freeze or expose to direct sunlight. Prior to use, stir gently to avoid foam formation or damaging the emulsion.
