Water-based hardener is an essential component in water-based 2K coating formulations, commonly used with polyurethane or epoxy resins to create films with high mechanical and chemical durability. Unlike solvent-based hardeners, water-based hardeners are designed to disperse well in aqueous environments, do not emit toxic gases, and release negligible VOCs. This makes the product suitable for clean production trends, environmentally friendly processes, and user safety.
With a curing mechanism through chemical reaction at room temperature or under mild baking, the product provides a stable, uniform, and long-lasting coating. This is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the official distributor of Covestro in Vietnam.
1. PRODUCT APPLICATION
Water-based hardeners are widely used in interior paints, water-based metal coatings, wood finishes, or coatings for engineering plastics requiring durability and abrasion resistance. In the wood industry, it helps coatings maintain gloss and resist scratches while ensuring safety in enclosed application conditions. In flooring applications, the product offers impact resistance and light chemical resistance in areas such as showrooms, clean rooms, or food processing plants. Water-based coatings for metal or plastic furniture also use this type of hardener to improve hardness, adhesion, and long-term color stability.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
When using water-based hardeners, mix them in the correct ratio with the water-based resin to ensure even reaction and avoid precipitation. After mixing, the blend should be stirred gently to avoid foam formation, and then applied within 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on environmental conditions and product type. The ideal curing temperature is around 20–30°C in a well-ventilated area with stable humidity below 70%. Do not leave the mixture exposed to air for too long, as it may lose reactivity or affect film formation. If faster durability is needed, mild baking at 40–60°C for 20–30 minutes may be applied.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Water-based hardeners are often sensitive to pH and ambient humidity, so compatibility should be checked before mass production. The product should be stored in a cool, dry place with stable temperature, avoiding direct sunlight and high heat which may degrade activity. Use clean tools when handling, and avoid contamination with metallic impurities or strong alkalis that can cause unwanted reactions. After opening, it should be used within one week or stored properly with desiccant and sealed in its original packaging.
