Water – borne UV curing resin is specially formulated to cure upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, using water as the dispersion medium instead of organic solvents. The system combines urethane resins, acrylics, and reactive oligomers to form a hard, glossy, and stable coating within seconds of UV exposure.
This resin system offers outstanding advantages: zero VOC emissions, safe application, and energy efficiency due to the absence of thermal drying. It represents an advanced technology favored in high-speed coating applications such as packaging printing, paper finishing, wood coating, and engineered plastics. This is one of the product groups distributed by Vichem – the official distributor of Covestro in Vietnam.
1. PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Water – borne UV curing resin is widely used in digital printing, art paper coating, overprint varnishes for packaging, surface coating for wood, molded plastic finishes, and decorative coatings for electronic devices. In the wood industry, UV coatings provide fast curing, creating a hard, high-gloss, and scratch-resistant surface.
In the printing industry, UV films deliver sharp images and enable printing on smooth paper or plastic substrates while maintaining stable color reproduction. Additionally, the resin is used in protective films for screens, plastic films, and applications requiring high precision and durability within short processing times.

2. APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Water – borne UV curing resin is typically supplied as an emulsion and can be applied using rollers, curtain coaters, or industrial inkjet systems. After applying the coating evenly on the substrate, it must be pre-dried at low temperature to evaporate water, followed by full curing under UV exposure using LED or mercury (Hg) lamps.
Curing speed depends on lamp intensity, exposure duration, and coating thickness—typically within 1 to 5 seconds. Ensure that the substrate is clean, dry, and free from dust or oil to achieve maximum adhesion and transparency. When blending with gloss enhancers or hardeners, stir gently and use within 24 hours of mixing.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Water – borne UV curing resin must be stored in sealed containers, away from direct sunlight or fluorescent lighting, as these can initiate premature curing.
Ideal storage conditions are between 10°C and 30°C. Avoid freezing to preserve emulsion stability. During application, ensure adequate pre-drying to remove all residual water before UV exposure to prevent bubbling or haziness in the final film. Use specialized equipment with controlled coating speed, UV intensity, and ventilation to ensure optimal performance and film durability.
