Water-based polyester resin is a water-dispersed resin developed to replace solvent-based systems in applications requiring durable, glossy, and environmentally safe coatings. With a flexible polymer structure and good film-forming ability, the resin provides high hardness, stable gloss, and good adhesion on wood, metal, and plastics.
Due to its negligible VOC emissions, water-based polyester aligns with the green transition trend in the coatings industry, especially in enclosed production areas or near residential zones. This product line is commonly used in interior finishes, engineered wood, and high-end decorative products. 1. PRODUCT APPLICATION
Water-based polyester resin is used in interior wood paints such as furniture, kitchen cabinets, wooden doors, partitions, or coatings for composite plastics, MDF, and industrial plywood. In office and residential furniture, water-based polyester delivers a soft natural gloss, long-lasting color, and resistance to yellowing over time. Some polyester grades can be combined with acrylic or water-based PU to enhance flexibility and water resistance, suitable for surfaces subject to frequent cleaning. Additionally, the resin is used as primer, mid-coat, or topcoat in complete coating systems, helping control surface quality and production efficiency.
2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Water-based polyester resin is usually supplied as an emulsion and can be directly blended with water, film-formers, thickeners, and compatible pigments. During formulation, ensure a neutral pH (7–8) to maintain dispersion stability and avoid coagulation. Application should be carried out at temperatures between 20 and 35°C and humidity below 70% to prevent film defects such as pinholes, blisters, or hazing. Surface drying time is typically 20 to 40 minutes depending on conditions and can be accelerated with mild heating if needed. For added durability, it can be combined with a compatible water-based hardener according to the recommended ratio.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Water-based polyester resin is sensitive to strong alkalis, transition metals, or ambient moisture; compatibility should be verified before large-scale production. After opening, packaging must be tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry place, avoiding freezing or direct sunlight. Before reuse, stir gently to ensure homogeneity and check viscosity for adjustment if necessary. Application equipment must be clean and free of oil, release agents, or impurities that could interfere with film formation.
