Waterborne bio-based resin is a bio-based polymer dispersed in water, capable of being biodegradable or derived from renewable resources. Free of VOC solvents and toxic emissions, this resin meets green industry trends in coatings and technical packaging. With easy dispersion, flexible film formation, and good adhesion, waterborne biopolymer resin is ideal for interior materials, paper, leather, food coatings, and sustainable packaging.
It is a perfect choice for manufacturers aiming toward a circular, sustainable, and health-conscious production model. This is one of the product groups distributed by Vichem – the official distributor of Covestro in Vietnam.
1. PRODUCT APPLICATION
Waterborne bio-based resin is used to coat kraft paper, biodegradable films, synthetic leather, compostable bags, and wooden furniture. In packaging, it offers light water resistance, maintains gloss, and does not affect the natural biodegradability of the base material. In the wood or specialty paper industry, biopolymer coatings enhance durability, are odorless, environmentally friendly, and easy to print on. Some resin grades also provide light oil resistance, making them suitable for paper cups, food boxes, and single-use items.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Waterborne bio-based resin can be used directly or diluted with water and additives depending on the specific application. When mixing with pigments, use a neutral pH system to maintain dispersion stability and avoid precipitation. Optimal application conditions are 20–30°C and humidity below 70% to ensure even drying, no foaming, and strong adhesion on paper, wood, or bioplastics. After drying, the coating layer can be heat-sealed, laminated, or overcoated for added performance. It should be used shortly after stirring and not exposed to air for too long to prevent oxidation.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Waterborne bio-based resin is sensitive to high or low pH environments and may lose stability if mixed improperly. It should be stored in a cool, dry place, not frozen, and protected from prolonged direct sunlight. Before mass production, samples should be tested on real substrates to evaluate adhesion, gloss, and biodegradability if required. Application tools and storage containers must be clean and free of alkali or heavy metal contamination to avoid unwanted reactions.
