Water-based acrylic resin is a type of resin dispersed in water, capable of forming films quickly and stably, commonly used in modern water-based paint formulations. Thanks to its durable polymer structure and fine molecular dispersion, the product delivers high adhesion, smooth surface finish, and good crack resistance.
Compared to solvent-based systems, water-based acrylic resin does not emit significant VOCs, is user-friendly, and aligns with the green trend in the coatings industry. This resin type is suitable for interior applications, clean industrial coatings, and areas with high environmental requirements. This is one of the product groups distributed by Vichem – the official distributor of Covestro in Vietnam.
1. PRODUCT APPLICATION
Water-based acrylic resin is used in interior wood paints, wall coatings, light metal coatings, plastic coatings, and even in some artistic or paper coating products. In the wood industry, the resin helps the paint dry quickly, with low odor, smooth surface, and reduced yellowing over time. In interior and decorative material coatings, the film from water-based acrylic does not peel under humidity or temperature changes. Some premium grades offer abrasion resistance, light chemical resistance, and long-lasting gloss without the need for additional hardeners.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Water-based acrylic resin is typically supplied as a ready-to-use emulsion and can be mixed with water, additives, or auxiliaries depending on the formulation. During mixing, pH stability and viscosity must be checked to avoid clumping or separation. Application should be done at temperatures from 20 to 30°C, in a dry and well-ventilated area with humidity below 70% to prevent hazing or uneven drying. After application, surface drying typically takes 20–30 minutes and full curing can be achieved within 24 hours under standard conditions. For improved durability, it can be combined with compatible water-based hardeners.
3. TECHNICAL NOTES
Water-based acrylic resin may be affected if combined with incompatible pigments, thickeners, or defoamers, so compatibility testing is required before large-scale use. The product should be stored in sealed containers, at temperatures between 5 and 35°C, avoiding freezing or direct sunlight exposure. After opening, it should be used within 2–3 weeks to maintain original properties. During application, tools must be clean and free from oil, grease, or alkaline contaminants to preserve the final coating’s durability and gloss.
