Luminy® LX975 is a high-viscosity PLA resin produced entirely from renewable biobased feedstocks, providing a clear reduction in carbon emissions compared to petroleum-based plastics. The product is optimized for use as a heat-seal layer in multilayer films or as a low-melting sheath component in sheath-core structures. It is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the exclusive agent of TotalEnergies Corbion in Vietnam.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® LX975 is used in multilayer film production as a heat-seal layer or as a low-temperature component in sheath-core fibers. It is suitable for biodegradable packaging, food films, and compostable consumer products.
With its high viscosity and excellent processability, Luminy® LX975 produces films with strong seal adhesion, smooth surfaces, and stable thermal performance, meeting the demanding requirements of packaging, coating, and advanced biodegradable material manufacturers.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Luminy® LX975 can be processed on standard extrusion equipment. A general-purpose screw with an L/D ratio of 24–32 is recommended. Since PLA becomes tacky at approximately 50°C, the feed section should be equipped with a screw cooling system to prevent material blockage.
Before processing, dry the pellets for 24 hours at 40°C to reduce moisture content below 100 ppm. Drying should be performed using a desiccant hot-air dryer with a dew point of –40°C or lower. Excess moisture can cause hydrolysis of PLA, leading to reduced molecular weight and mechanical strength.
During start-up and shutdown, purge the system with polyolefin or Dyna-Purge compounds to prevent cross-contamination. After production, all PLA residues must be removed to avoid lactic acid formation, which can corrode the die or screw.
TECHNICAL NOTES
After production, PLA must be completely removed from the system to prevent degradation into lactic acid, which can cause equipment corrosion. Luminy® LX975 should be stored in sealed packaging, away from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C.
The product is available in 1250 kg aluminum-lined big bags or 25 kg sample bags.
It is approved for food-contact applications according to EU 10/2011 and FDA FCN 1926, suitable for all food types and conditions from B to H.
