Luminy® LX575 (BMB/RMB) is a transparent, high-viscosity PLA designed specifically for film extrusion, thermoforming, and technical fiber applications. With its amorphous nature, the product provides excellent clarity, smooth processing, and suitability for high-end biodegradable and food packaging materials. Two variants are available:
- BMB (Bonsucro Mass Balance): produced from 100% Bonsucro-certified sugarcane feedstock, ensuring sustainable biobased sourcing.
- RMB (Recycled Mass Balance): contains 20–30% chemically recycled PLA, allocated by the mass balance principle to ensure consistent quality and purity.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® LX575 is widely used for extrusion of transparent films and sheets, biodegradable fiber spinning, and low-heat food packaging applications.
Thanks to its high stereochemical purity (98%) and high viscosity, the product delivers films with tensile strength of 50 MPa, tensile modulus of 3500 MPa, and outstanding optical transparency.
It is also suitable for thermoformed biodegradable products such as cutlery, cups, trays, and coated packaging films.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Before processing, the pellets should be dried for 4–6 hours at 85°C using a desiccant dryer with a dew point of –40°C or lower to reduce moisture content below 250 ppm, ideally below 100 ppm.
Excessive moisture may cause polymer hydrolysis, leading to reduced mechanical strength and optical clarity. Before operation, purge the system with LDPE or Dyna-Purge to prevent cross-contamination. After production, remove all PLA from the system to prevent lactic acid degradation and equipment corrosion.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Luminy® LX575 is supplied in 1250 kg aluminum-lined moisture-proof big bags. Store the material in sealed, dry packaging, away from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C.
Before opening, allow the material to reach room temperature to avoid condensation. Do not store near heat sources, organic solvents, or strong oxidizing agents
