Luminy® LX530 is a medium-viscosity, high-stereochemical-purity (98% L-isomer) PLA resin designed for fiber applications, manufactured by TotalEnergies Corbion. LX530 is a fully biobased material that helps reduce CO₂ emissions and serves as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics in both technical and consumer applications. It is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the exclusive agent of TotalEnergies Corbion in Vietnam.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® LX530 is suitable for the production of staple, spunbond, and nonwoven fibers used in technical textiles, filtration, medical products, packaging, and green consumer applications. The material is also used in film extrusion, sheet manufacturing, and fully biodegradable packaging.
With a melting temperature of 165°C and a tensile modulus of 3500 MPa, Luminy® LX530 provides stable heat resistance and mechanical strength, and can be easily integrated into existing processing lines.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Before processing, Luminy® LX530 resin should be dried for 4–6 hours at 85°C to reduce moisture below 250 ppm, ideally under 100 ppm. Drying should be performed using a desiccant hot air dryer with a dew point of –40°C or lower to prevent hydrolysis during melting.
During fiber spinning or extrusion, the recommended processing temperature is 220–240°C. The system must be thoroughly purged before introducing PLA to prevent cross-contamination, as PLA is incompatible with many conventional polymers. When changing materials, only attach the spinning head after the PLA melt flow becomes stable and homogeneous.
TECHNICAL NOTES
After production, PLA must be completely removed from the system to prevent degradation into lactic acid, which can corrode equipment. Luminy® LX530 should be stored in sealed packaging, protected from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C.
The product is supplied in 1250 kg aluminum-lined big bags or 25 kg trial bags.
It is approved for food-contact applications under EU 10/2011 and FDA FCN 1926 standards, suitable for all food types and usage conditions from B to H.
