Luminy® L175 is a high-heat resistant, high-viscosity PLA homopolymer within the biopolymer portfolio of TotalEnergies Corbion. It is entirely produced from renewable resources and provides a significant carbon footprint reduction compared to petroleum-based plastics. This is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the exclusive agent of TotalEnergies Corbion in Vietnam.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® L175 is used in the production of biodegradable films, sheets, thermoformed trays, and packaging suitable for food applications, biodegradable cutlery, cup lids, containers, and bio-coatings.
In industrial use, this material is ideal for fiber spinning or semi-crystalline thermoforming processes requiring high heat resistance and dimensional stability up to 105°C.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Before processing, Luminy® L175 resin should be dried for 4–6 hours at 100°C to reduce moisture content below 250 ppm, ideally under 100 ppm. Drying should be performed using a hot air dryer with desiccant and a dew point of –40°C or lower to avoid hydrolysis during melting.
During extrusion, the recommended processing temperature is 180–210°C, with the feed zone maintained at 20–40°C and the die head at 190–210°C. The screw speed should be moderate to ensure stable melt flow and minimize degradation.
During startup or shutdown, the system should be purged with LDPE or Dyna-Purge compounds before introducing PLA to prevent cross-contamination and corrosion caused by lactic acid degradation.
TECHNICAL NOTES
After production, PLA must be completely removed from the equipment to avoid degradation into lactic acid. The resin should be stored in sealed packaging, protected from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C.
Products are supplied in 1250 kg aluminum-lined big bags or 25 kg trial bags.
This product is food-contact safe according to EU 10/2011 and FDA FCN 1926 standards and suitable for all food types under conditions B through H.
