Luminy® L130 (BMB/RMB) is a high-heat resistant PLA homopolymer with fast crystallization and high rigidity, produced by TotalEnergies Corbion. Compared to standard PLA, Luminy® L130 has a higher melting point (175°C) and faster crystallization rate, allowing the production of semi-crystalline parts with superior heat resistance and dimensional stability. The product is available in two variants:
- BMB (Bonsucro Mass Balance): produced from 100% Bonsucro-certified sugarcane feedstock, ensuring sustainable sourcing.
- RMB (Recycled Mass Balance): contains 20–30% chemically recycled PLA, allocated according to the mass balance principle.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® L130 is used in injection molding, fiber spinning, and thermoforming of biodegradable products. It is an ideal material for technical parts, nonwoven fibers, films, and high-heat food packaging.
With stereochemical purity ≥99%, a tensile modulus of 3500 MPa, and a heat deflection temperature of 105°C, Luminy® L130 provides excellent stiffness, durability, and thermal stability.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Before processing, Luminy® L130 pellets should be dried for 4–6 hours at 100°C using a hot-air desiccant dryer with a dew point of –40°C or lower to reduce moisture content below 250 ppm, ideally below 100 ppm. Excessive moisture can cause hydrolysis and mechanical degradation.
During machine startup or shutdown, purge the system with LDPE or Dyna-Purge to prevent cross-contamination and corrosion. After production, all PLA must be removed from the system to prevent lactic acid degradation.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Luminy® L130 (BMB/RMB) is supplied as semi-crystalline white pellets, packed in 1250 kg aluminum-lined moisture-proof big bags. The material should be stored in sealed, dry packaging, away from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C.
Avoid storage near heat sources or strong organic solvents to prevent polymer degradation. Before opening, allow the material to reach room temperature to prevent moisture condensation inside the packaging.
