Luminy® D120 is a high-heat resistant D-homopolymer PLA with medium viscosity, developed by TotalEnergies Corbion for applications requiring high thermal stability, mechanical strength, and biodegradability. When used at 3–7% as a nucleating agent or blended 35–50% with L-homopolymer PLA, Luminy® D120 enables the formation of stereocomplex PLA — a high-heat PLA material that can replace certain petroleum-based plastics. It is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the exclusive agent of TotalEnergies Corbion in Vietnam.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Luminy® D120 is used as a nucleating additive for L-homopolymer PLA, helping shorten crystallization time and improve heat resistance. When blended with L-type PLA at 35–50%, the two polymers form stereocomplex PLA, which has a deformation temperature above 190°C — ideal for technical components, high-heat packaging, and biodegradable industrial parts.
Additionally, Luminy® D120 is suitable for extrusion of films and technical sheets, providing excellent strength and clarity.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Before processing, Luminy® D120 should be dried for 4–6 hours at 100°C to reduce moisture below 250 ppm, ideally under 100 ppm. Drying should be performed in a hot-air desiccant dryer with a dew point of –40°C or lower. Recommended extrusion or injection molding temperature: 190–220°C. High moisture content may cause hydrolysis and mechanical degradation, so proper drying is essential before film extrusion or sheet forming.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Store in sealed packaging, protected from direct sunlight, at temperatures below 50°C. Packaging options 700 kg octabin (aluminum-lined) or 25 kg trial bags.
Luminy® D120 is certified biodegradable according to EN-13432, OK Compost (TÜV Austria S478), and Seedling (7W2030). It is 100% biobased, certified under EN16785-1 (DIC-00001) and ASTM D6866 (USDA Biopreferred). Approved for food-contact applications under EU 10/2011 and within the scope of FDA FCN 1926 (conditions B–H).
