Lumilact® L is a high-purity L-lactide, an essential monomer in the synthesis of PLA (Polylactic Acid) and biodegradable copolymers. It is produced through a closed-loop process from renewable biobased feedstocks, ensuring chemical purity ≥99% and stereochemical purity ≥99.5% L-isomer. It is one of the product lines distributed by Vichem – the exclusive agent of TotalEnergies Corbion in Vietnam.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Lumilact® L is used as the main monomer in ring-opening polymerization (ROP) to produce PLLA homopolymer or PLA copolymers. It is suitable for:
- Production of heat-resistant and biodegradable PLA resins,
- Films, sheets, and technical fibers,
- Research on biopolymers and non-medical biomedical applications.
With its high purity, Lumilact® L allows precise control of the polymerization reaction, resulting in polymers with uniform molecular weight distribution and optimal crystallinity.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
Lumilact® L is a white crystalline solid that may slightly agglomerate during storage or transportation; however, this does not affect product quality. Such lumps can be easily crushed or separated before feeding.
During polymerization, strict control of raw material moisture is essential, as PLA is highly sensitive to water and can hydrolyze during the reaction. Lumilact® L is not recommended for medical or pharmaceutical applications.
TECHNICAL NOTES
The product is sensitive to moisture and light; therefore, it should be stored in sealed packaging, at temperatures below 35°C, in a dry and well-ventilated environment. Avoid direct sunlight or exposure to high heat sources.
Lumilact® L is typically packed in 25 kg steel drums or aluminum-laminated moisture-proof bags to maintain purity during storage and transportation.
